Abstract

The primary function of the Internet memes is to deliver current information together with comments in the most attractive form, usually serving the broadly defined entertainment. Indirectly they function as news – on the one hand they inform the recipient of some event or phenomenon, on the other hand they enrich the message with additional content. The examples of memes are visual resources of Facebook fanpage – Artificial Violets, whose authors use known paintings in their posts, adding to them speech bubbles, which generally relate to current socio-political or cultural and social events. Memes of this kind are to capture reality as accurately as possible using possibly a small number of devices, presenting a grotesque view of the reality, or exaggerating some features. They are the voice of the Internet community, but also a tool for communication and exchange of views, since many of them permeate everyday life from the virtual world.
