HISTORICAL OUTLINE

„Humanities Review“ („Przegląd Humanistyczny“) is one of the oldest scientific journals currently published in Poland (founded in 1957 as a monthly, later bimonthly, since 2015 a quarterly). Since its inception, it has been the only journal in the broadly defined humanities with a fully and consistently interdisciplinary character. In this sense, „Humanities Review“ is a unique journal and has had an exceptional position in the Polish humanities for several decades. It is difficult to imagine the history of the humanities in Poland since the 1950s without its continuous and active presence.

AIMS OF THE JOURNAL

The fundamental aim is to inspire research conducted in various humanistic disciplines and to publish and disseminate its results. A wide openness to the world exchange of humanistic thought and constant participation in this exchange is accompanied by respect for the more than sixty-year tradition of existence and specifically Polish identity. „Humanities Review“ („Przegląd Humanistyczny“) strives to present the Polish view on universal issues and in this way to contribute to world science. The integration of the humanistic circles is supported in particular by monographic thematic issues devoted to the key problems of contemporary humanities. At the same time, the quarterly has the ambition to participate in the current intellectual and cultural life, which is expressed in the patronage over various events (scientific conferences, book publications).

SCOPE OF THE JOURNAL

„Humanities Review“ („Przegląd Humanistyczny“) represents the basic humanities disciplines: literary studies, cultural studies, linguistics, history, philosophy, sociology. Since its foundation, both Polish and foreign researchers have been publishing in it (some articles are published in congress languages). The journal has been and still is open to authors representing various generations: outstanding scholars of international renown as well as researchers of younger generations (PhD students and even undergraduates). „Humanities Review“ was a place of scientific debut for many Polish humanists. The permanent sections that make up its diverse structure (in addition to the space devoted to articles: From the workshop of humanists, Discussions and polemics, Materials and contributions, Reviews and overviews) allow to include different forms and varieties of scientific expression (also translations). The quarterly is addressed primarily to the scientific community but does not ignore the less professional reader, especially teachers, students and the intelligentsia interested in humanistic issues.
